Treasure (Matthew 13:44)
AJ Vanderhorst, January 29, 2012Part of the Fewer Moving Parts series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
--
Jesus liked to compare God’s kingdom to finding a jaw-dropping stash of unmarked bills in an abandoned lot. He followed this parable up by saying that God’s investment program gives 10,000% yields (Matthew 19:29) and that the desire for treasure is good–but not all treasure is created equal (Matthew 6:19-21). Jesus appeals unabashedly to our self interest. How does he expect “treasure” to make joy our most basic motive?

Matthew 13:44
